Driven, positive and passionate about excelling in whatever I take on, is how I would describe myself. I am a person who loves to keep busy and embracing new challenges. I am on the court, in the sand, or in the gym seven days a week focusing on being the best I can be. While still keeping a focus on school, I have also found a way to fit in my role as a swim instructor. I quietly lead by example, not looking for the spotlight, but rather looking to make my entire team perform better by being focused, dedicated and appreciating the talents of my partners in the sand and on the court. Last year I was honoured when my teammates voted me MVP. If I don’t achieve a goal, I set my sights on it and go for it again. I always keep my cool, and never lose my composure in tough game situations. I own my mistakes.
I’ve always been told that I have good court awareness. I see the court well, and my coaches have noticed this. That’s why they are able to move me to different positions as needed. When our libero was injured before the season this year, I was the one they chose to take over. I was also asked to jump in as setter the year earlier. Typically, I play right side, but have played power when game strategy needed to change. I am proud that my coaches and teammates recognize me as “a fixer” and as player that is willing to take risks when the team needs me to.
Volleyball is my passion, but I love all sports. For many years I was on the number 2 Ontario women’s field lacrosse team. I was also a competitive swimmer (not my favourite) and a track and soccer athlete. Now, between the court and the beach, I am playing most days of the year, and have a very large capacity for work. I just don’t get tired. At the end of a tournament I still maintain my drive and my focus, and I can see my opponents wavering. That’s why I put such a big emphasis on fitness and strength, to get the extra height I need on my jump and the extra power I need on my hits.
I have varied music tastes, from country to pop to rap. I don’t have much time for TV, but love thrillers. I love getting my parents to watch The Bachelor/ Bachelorette, with me and my sister. Watching my dad squirm and sometimes run from the room shouting “You are NEVER going on this show!” adds to the entertainment.
I want to go to a school to study the Humanities and Business, ultimately getting my MBA. It is important to me that the school has a good sense of community and that the athletes are able to get a full college experience.
